An Exploration of the Ancient: An Irish Yoga Holiday

September 14-19, 2021 in Sligo, Ireland

with Jaime Boswell & Kathy Fotterall

Ireland - the Emerald Isle - is home to extensive megalithic tombs and monuments, remnants of a spiritual and agricultural people dating back to around 4500 BC, and wild, natural beauty.
The ancient history of Ireland, the folklore, the strong spiritual culture, and the natural beauty will all inspire our exploration of the ancient yoga tradition.
This trip is a combination of a yoga retreat and a culture-filled holiday. Open both to those that want to practice daily yoga to enhance their travel experience, and their travel partners who may wish to join in some of the practices or not at all.
Let's explore together the wild landscape, ancient culture and ancient practices.

May you awaken to the mystery of being here and enter the quiet immensity of your own presence. May you have joy and peace in the temple of your senses.
~John O'Donahue, Irish Poet

The yoga practices will weave together yoga philosophy along with therapeutic practices for the breath, body and mind, always honoring the individual needs of each person.
We are both therapeutic yoga teachers and we value offering each person a practice that allows them to feel a combination of challenge and steadiness.
We believe yoga is a practice for all, and will offer variations in the physical practice to allow for finding the positions that support your unique practice and intention.

Templehouse, County Sligo, Ireland

Temple House, a luxury Country House in county Sligo, Ireland, is a classical Georgian manor set in a private estate of over 1,000 acres, overlooking a 13th century lakeside castle of the Knights Templar. The Perceval family home since 1665, the present manor was redesigned in 1864 and enjoys the authentic and unpretentious luxury country house atmosphere.

Half a mile of avenue meandering through mature parkland brings you to Temple House, its lush green grass maintained in perfect order with the assistance of sixteen hundred sheep and their lambs. Fine old trees provide the flock with a measure of shade on hot days and, in all directions, there is a screen formed by the natural woods that cover more than half the area of this impressive estate.

Transportation to and from Dublin and Temple House will be provided. We will meet in Dublin, either at the airport or at an easy to access hotel, the morning of September 14 around 8:00 am.

Arriving a day or two early into Dublin is highly recommended to allow time to explore the city and to adjust and acclimate. We will share information about the hotel where we will be staying for anyone that wants to meet up early and also stay there.

On our way between Dublin and Temple House we will stop at the Brú na Bóinne World Heritage Site to tour the sites of Newgrange, a 5,200 year old passage tomb, and Knowth, an elaborately decorated passage tomb.

On September 19 we will depart from Temple House early enough to allow for arrival at the Dublin airport by 1:00pm.

Make the experience exactly what you want by choosing how you want to spend your time each day.

Yoga classes will be offered each morning, followed by a full Irish breakfast prepared by our host Roderick.

Following breakfast there will be a planned optional excursion each day. Potential excursions will include opportunities such as visiting local historic and spiritual sites, walking the rugged landscapes, meandering neighboring towns, and visiting the Saturday market.

Two full-day excursions and two transfers to local towns can be added on for a cost of $160 for all, prices for individual excursions will also be offered. Pre-registration for excursions will be required by June 2021 in order to plan accordingly. Details on excursions will be provided upon request.

On three afternoons we will offer a gentle and restful yoga practice. The grounds are also free for wandering and row boats are available for exploring the lake.

Kathy and Jaime practice together in the summers in Maine, and have both studied in the Kripalu yoga tradition, and have a shared interest in bringing therapeutic teachings to our students that allow all to accept and work lovingly with their own bodies to find more joy in life.

Jaime Boswell

Jaime's passions in life include yoga, travel, adventure, and sharing these things with others. Her mission in business and in life is to help others find more joyful living through yoga. Experiencing a yoga retreat is one of the ways that Jaime has seen students really open to the peace and joy that yoga can bring. As a therapeutic yoga teacher and yoga therapist, Jaime also believes in meeting students where there are, and helping them to find a practice that is just right for their unique mind, body and spirit. Jaime has been teaching now for over 12 years, and during that time has had the privilege to continue growing as a student and teacher of yoga. Her formal teacher training has primarily been in the Kripalu tradition, with a 200-hr certification in Kripalu Yoga, and an 800-hr Kripalu Integrative Yoga Therapy certification with Joseph LePage at the Kripalu School of Yoga. Jaime’s teaching does not reflect one particular type of yoga, but is influenced by the array of teachers and traditions that have inspired her over the years. Her classes can be described as heart-centered, alignment-based, where students are encouraged to find personal challenge while maintaining a sense of ease.

Kathy Fotterall

Kathy, "a Warrior Goddess in the Wisdom Years”, has spent the last 12 years studying and practicing Yoga. She received her initial 200 hour certification in 2008 from the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, and went on to complete the 500 hour level training in Yoga Therapy with the Pranakriya School of Yoga Healing Arts. With a deep passion for health, Kathy has investigated a variety of healing modalities, including in depth studies in Positional Therapy with Lee Albert at Kripalu. Trainings with Yoganand Michael Carroll, Tias Little, Stephen Cope, and Marlysa Sullivan have all helped Kathy to bring more awareness and healing to herself, and a deeper understanding from which she can fully share all the benefits of yoga with students and friends. Kathy brings to her teaching an enthusiastic belief that the mat is your refuge - the place to be you without judgment, the place of compassion and acceptance to trust yourself first, listen to your body and move into stillness. Kathy steps onto her mat as the teacher with deep gratitude for the wisdom her teachers and students share with her.
